How we do it?
We partner with community organizations.

Peace Week Delaware brings together community organizations and people for an annual week of free nonpartisan events to promote harmony, equity and justice in our community. Each organization promotes peace in the way that best fits its mission.

By the Numbers: Impacting Our Community

Events

In 2022, we had 33 in-person events, 15 virtual events and 3 hybrid events. We offered 110 events in 2019 and 35 in our inaugural year, 2016. This year, we are again planning a mix of virtual and in-person events.

Counties

We have steadily grown to cover the State. One-third of all events last year originated in Sussex county. Virtual programming is increasing accessibility and diversity.

Themes

Our event organizers plan events around themes such as: well-being, racial inequity, trauma care, mental health and inclusion,  providing valuable, current information to Delawareans.

Years

In our eighth year of programming, we are leading the way in repairing our brokenness from a tough pandemic year and helping to restore the health of our community.

Other Ways to Get Involved

Be a Peace Advocate

Peace Week Delaware is an all-volunteer organization. We need committed peace advocates like you to join our network, help spread the work, and get involved according to your interest and availability.

Contribute to Help Peace Week Grow

No matter how much willpower we have or how many hours we put in, there are some services we provide that money simply must buy. Please support our efforts to achieve even more in 2024.

"I was delighted to find that Peace Week had included an event the focused on the environment"

“I attended a 45-minute nature walk at the Peterson Wildlife Refuge on the Wilmington Riverfront with about fifteen other nature-loving folks, guided by an experienced naturalist from the Ashland Nature Society.  There’s something about the beauty of nature that calms the mind and body – both, from my perspective – important components in the effort to create a more peaceful world.”

-Nancy Pinson, First Unitarian Church of Wilmington

“For me, Peace Week is a standard-bearer for hope, a demonstration of social cohesiveness..."

“People of all faiths and backgrounds come together to help and support each other. We all need a reminder that our future can be more peaceful when we help each other through our emotional and physical traumas.”

-LaVaida Owens-White, community health nurse and advocate for trauma-informed care.

"Helped me forge new connections with my community"

“Working with Mt. Calvary AME Church of Concord, the recipient of a Peace Pole, helped me  forge new connections within my community.  Not only have I become aware of their work for peace and justice here in western Sussex County, but I got to paint peace rocks with the youth!  These small reminders of peace make me smile every time I see one.”

-Beth Kopicki, Sussex County Peace  Week
