Community Collections
Before providing you with a listing of this year’s events, we would like to call to your attention two collections, the Menstrual Products Drive and A Collection for Syrian Refugees, that need our support. Please be as generous as you can. Promoting peace requires action and these are two small ways we can act.
SYRIAN REFUGEE COLLECTION

Due to nine years of war, millions of Syrians have been forced to abandon their homes and communities, creating the largest refugee and displacement crisis of our time. More than 6 million have fled their country to become refugees or displaced within Syria. Half of the people affected by the terrible results are children. We are working with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund to get supplies to where they are needed most. PCFR picks up and sorts all the donations and packs them into a shipping container to be delivered to one of the middle east ports – from there the containers are trucked to the camps.
We will collect items for Syrian Refugees at locations listed below. In addition, various Peace Week events will be a one-night collection site as noted in their event description. Items being collected are bedding, school supplies, hygiene items, educational toys and easy books, new socks and underwear, heavy-duty shoes, first aid supplies, sewing machines and sewing supplies. Small donations made by many people can make a big difference. Donations need not be boxed; trash bags are recommended.

International Peace Day
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

2019 Theme: “Climate Action for Peace”
The theme draws attention to the importance of combatting climate change as a way to protect and promote peace throughout the world.
Climate change causes clear threats to international peace and security. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts, forcing millions to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The salinization of water and crops is endangering food security, and the impact on public health is escalating. The growing tensions over resources and mass movements of people are affecting every country on every continent.
“It is possible to achieve our goals, but we need decisions, political will and transformational policies to allow us to still live in peace with our own climate.” — Secretary-General António Guterres, 15 May 2019
Show your solidarity with the peoples of our Earth on International Peace Day by attending one of these Peace Week Delaware events.
I am because we are.
