Get Messy -- Conflict Transformation

“Get Messy!”: We invite you to get up close and personal with complexity, with insights drawn from the field of conflict transformation, experiences out in our wide UU world…and from life with a four-year-old. As part of our Delaware Peace Week celebrations, we welcome guest worship speaker Lenore Bajare-Dukes, our new(ish) Primary Contact with the Unitarian Universalist Association, to share practical and spiritual lessons for practicing peace where it’s most challenging—and in doing so, growing more vibrant, just, connected congregations and communities.
Lenore will conduct practice sessions after the worship service.

An Act of Peace: Supporting Asylum-Seekers II

  • Location: Calvary Baptist Church
    215 E. Delware Ave., Newark, DE, 19711
  • Organization(s): Calvary Baptist Church
  • Adult, Discussion, Film screening

Come watch and discuss an important documentary called Seeking Asylum: A Mother’s Journey. This film is an award-winning feature documentary that bears witness to the endless deterrents migrants face when petitioning for asylum in the United States. In a dismantled system that has been designed for failure, we follow one woman’s journey as she searches for protection for her and kids. Most people seeking asylum are running from extreme violence in their home countries.

Unfortunately, many view getting to the U.S. as the final hurdle of the migration journey, but we quickly learn that once in the U.S. the fight has just begun. During one of the most uncertain times in our country’s history, Seeking Asylum documents the challenges asylum seekers face and shows why asylum is an integral part of the American Dream that we cannot afford to lose. It is a courageous act of peace to support those who seek asylum in the U.S.

On-site registration will be available for those who chose not to book/register online. Refreshments will be provided.

We will discuss the themes of the film as well as ways to support our own neighbors who are seeking asylum.
