Art & Wellness: A Journey Through Creativity

  • Location: Newark Free Library
750 Library Ave, Newark, DE, 19711
  • Organization(s): New Castle County Libraries - Newark Free Library

Take a break from the everyday and explore the calming power of art at the library!

Are you a teen or adult seeking a space to relax and express yourself creatively? Join us for our monthly art therapy workshop series, designed to help you unwind, de-stress, and find balance through guided art projects. Each session offers a new opportunity to explore therapeutic techniques all in the peaceful setting of your local library.

Neurographic Art is a creative technique that combines art and psychology to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and problem-solving. Developed by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarev in 2014, this method involves drawing lines and shapes to create intricate patterns, often resembling neural networks.

Key aspects of neurographic art include:

  • Stress Relief: The repetitive and flowing nature of the drawing process can help reduce stress and anxiety, offering a meditative experience similar to mindfulness practices.
  • Problem Solving: By engaging the brain in a different way, neurographic art can help unlock creative solutions and new perspectives on problems.
  • No Artistic Skill Required: The process is accessible to everyone, regardless of their artistic abilities. The emphasis is on the act of drawing rather than the end result.
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation: The process encourages a state of mindfulness, as participants focus on the act of drawing and the patterns they create, promoting relaxation and mental clarity.

Please Note: This workshop is designed for Teens 13+ and Adults. Art therapy activities may be challenging for young children to fully engage with or understand. For any questions, please reach out to Kim or Lauren at the library by calling 302-731-7550.
