Being Peace at the Labyrinth: Contemplation as Activism

  • Location: First & Central Presbyterian Church
    1101 N. Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware, 19801
  • Organization(s): First & Central Presbyterian Church

It is with our capacity of smiling, breathing,
and being peace that we can make peace.1

We tend to think of contemplative practice as a private thing, using its inward focus to cultivate our own inner peace. But when we intentionally use contemplation to direct our inner peace into our outward lives, it becomes a form of activism. In “being” peace, we help create peace in the world around us.
In this labyrinth walk, we will practice being peace together. No prior experience is required. We’ll ask each participant to contemplate a layer of peace from Peace Week Delaware’s featured quote.2 We’ll provide a handout with the quote and a sample format you may follow.
This is an indoor, drop-in event. We will be open 4pm-7pm, with the collaborating support of live 20-minute Sound Bath sessions between 4:30 and 6:30. During breaks between live sessions, we’ll be accompanied by Benjamin Iobst’s recording Seven Metals: Singing Bowls of Tibet.
Come join us! We suggest you allow at least 30 minutes. Walk the floor labyrinth or trace a finger labyrinth or simply sit in a chair, as you choose. Limited floor space available if you wish to bring a yoga mat and lie down. Questions? Email us at labyrinth@firstandcentral.org
