Don Petersen

Don has over 20 years of Federal government management and executive experience in large organizations, including 10 years as a Senior Executive focusing on budget, finance and administrative management.  Upon retirement from the Federal government in 2004, Don started an executive leadership coaching and consulting practice, working with managers and their organizations to adapt to change, discover and maximize strengths, improve performance, and facilitate new approaches to problem solving.

In 2014 Don retired from his leadership coaching and organizational development work and moved to full-time residency to Sussex County.  Since then Don is devoting his time and energies to social justice work in Sussex County and the State of Delaware.  Those activities included:  Serving 7 years on the Steering Committee of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice where he served as Vice Chair of the Steering Committee and as Chair of the Community Outreach Committee.  Serving as Interim President of Immanuel Homeless Shelter from November2019 through June 2020.  Serving as Vice President of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Organization of Sussex County.  Don is a member of the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware, where he served as Chair of the Social and Environmental Justice Committee and currently sits on its Executive Team  and the Worship Committee and Strategic Planning Team.

Don has an MBA in Business, Economics and Public Policy from George Washington University and several certifications in coaching and organizational development.  He lives in Rehoboth Beach with his husband Jeff and their dog Zooey.
